Create a dust jacket for a book

The dust jacket, also called a book cover, provides additional protection for your book. It is loosely wrapped around the book and folded over the cover edges. How to create your dust jacket and what you need to consider can be found here.

Create a dust jacket with the online designer

You can find our online designer with almost all of our products.

For the handcrafted hardcover book you can now also design the dust jacket. Simply select dust jacket and cover designer and off you go! The jacket dimensions are automatically adjusted to the selected book.

Create a dust jacket without the online designer

To create a dust jacket for your book, you can use various programs. Adobe InDesign or Adobe Photoshop are recommended. In programs such as Word or OpenOffice, creating the cover is also certainly possible.

The dimensions for the dust jacket are displayed on the respective product page on the left. The prerequisite is that the dust jacket is selected, which is currently only possible for the handcrafted book.

The dust jacket is structured as follows:

The bleed allowance (gray border) is already included in the dimensions. Note that this area will be trimmed off. Images should always extend into the gray area to prevent “flash” (white edges).

The fold line marks where the flap begins. This flap is folded into the book. To set up the dust jacket correctly, it is advisable to create temporary guides. To place the flap line markers in the correct position, measure 70 mm into the document from both the right and the left.

The book spine is in the middle of the dust jacket. Its width is also shown on the product page.

The finished document must then be converted into a PDF document. It can then be uploaded in the shopping cart or sent to us by email.
